River Watch

In the River Watch Curriculum Extension Unit, students develop an understanding of the impact human land-use has on the watershed and on the health of streams and rivers within the watershed.  After researching specific uses of land that impact river ecosystems, students focus their learning on the macroinvertebrates that sustain the health of the river and the existing cause and effect relationship between land-use and macroinvertebrates. They learn how macroinvertebrates are utilized for monitoring stream health, and they become more informed environmental stewards and citizen scientists, conducting simulated and real-life stream water quality assessments.
