INFO ABOUT THE COMPETITION ON 1/17
INFO FROM BMI
We are looking forward to seeing you and your teams this Sunday, January 17, for the Paper Airplane Challenge. Please share this email with your students, their families, and any other interested people.
The Paper Airplane Challenge will be held at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, 1415 Key Highway, Baltimore MD 21230. We have free on-site parking for our visitors.
Doors will open to participants at 9:00 a.m. Please plan your travel accordingly. Teams should plan to arrive as follows:
We will once again have our popular Rocket Activity available during the challenge. Students can make air-powered paper rockets and test their aim as they fly to the moon!
Please plan to enjoy some delicious snacks and lunch from Tim’s Treats while you are at the Challenge. This local businessman has been working with the elementary Challenges for years, offering yummy treats for sale and helping to make the day fun for all!
Q: What is the coach’s duty during the competition? During the competition, your job will be to ensure that students get to their stations at the allotted time. (BMI will provide all details regarding times on competition day.) In addition, you will serve as their personal cheerleader.
Q: Do I need to bring any paperwork? No
Q: How long is the competition going to be? See the email below from BMI.
Q: When should we arrive? The paper airplane challenge does not seem as heavily attended as the 3rd grade Safe Racer challenge. However, competitions can grow in popularity from one year to the next. (Waterloo doubled the number of participants this year!) So, I would plan on arriving at 9:00. However, please know that the doors won't open until 9:00 on the nose.
Q: Do we need to bring lunch? Each member of your team should plan on it just in case the event goes long. In addition, make sure that each member brings a snack and plenty of water.
Q: What is the parking situation? There is a large lot outside of BMI. If you get there early, there will be space. However, depending on the popularity of the event this year, that space could fill up fast. (Parking at BMI is free.) If space fills up then you are on your own to park (which may incur some cost.) Try and carpool as much as possible to alleviate parking congestion as much as possible.
Please share the above information with parents, as well as the information in the forwarded email below to each of your members. Once you have emailed them, you may want to call each one just to ensure that everyone is on board and that there are no surprises on competition day. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.
